The Norwegian DJ and producer Mikkas, better known as Djuma Soundsystem, has for more than two decades made atop of the line, mind-bending, genre-busting underground music. No one listening to House Music in the past 15 years has been able to miss the modern classic “Les Djinns.” Since then he has toured the world many times over, with a particular highlight being when he DJ’ed the last hour counting down to midnight on New Year’s Eve 2009, toalmost one million people gathered at Baha Beach in Rio DeJaneiro. One would think Mikkas could take a moment to relax every now and again, but this is one restless soul thatrefuses to slow down. Instead, he continues to travel the world to spread his gospel of meaningful, organic, afro-inspired club music to appreciating crowds. His latest track shave been released on Crosstown Rebels, Chapter 24,SOSO, Kittball, Sol Select as, and Get Physical
In 2018 Djuma Soundsystem’s remix of Robosonic’s“Drowning” refused to leave Beatport’s top 20, and therecent Djuma Soundsystem & Westerby Remix of Tube &Berger’s “Fetzen” on ZEHN, made an equally grandimpression with its deep afro-tinged grooves and uber-solidgenre-crossing production, ultimately reaching the #1 spot onBeatport’s Afro chart. Nowhere will the current sound ofDjuma Soundsystem be better documented than on theforthcoming “Full Body Workout”-compilation on GetPhysical’s label, which is now complete. A long time in thepipeline, and as a real labor of love, the mix is heavilyinfluenced by the sounds of Africa, which has always playeda big part of Djuma Soundystem’s DJ sets. The DjumaSoundsystem installment of Full Body Workout featuresbrand-new tracks and collaborations as well as a multitude ofbrand new remixes of new and classic Djuma Soundsystemtracks, all selected personally by Mikkas himself.
Both his musical and sonic standards are incredibly high, both as a DJ and as a producer. If it doesn’t sound justright, in any way, it won’t be played. Instead, it’s qualityall the way, and you can hear that. His sound is definitelyunderground, but as well as making a sweaty basementclub heave, he can make any festival crowd go mad withhis irresistible mix of spaced out Deep House, lush, warmmelodic techno, and deep percussive afro. Aftermanyyears of playing clubs and festivals all over the world, thebeautiful sounds of Djuma Soundsystem is coming soon toa dance floor near you. Stay tuned!
